10 Ways To Make Your Battery Last Longer

Posted by admin on September 04, 2009
Battery Tips / No Comments

As far as battery maintenance goes, I’m the worst ever. I can’t even begin to count the number of times I’ve needed to jump on my lap-top, use my cell phone or any other portable electronic device, only to find myself in the unenviable position of having no juice left on the battery. Simply put, I overuse, poorly maintain, and all in all just wear down all of the laptop batteries I need like it’s going out of style.

These bad habits usually leave me powerless when I most need power, so I asked around and came out with these 10 simple things you can do to make any battery last longer.

1. Use the lowest brightness settings on screen displays.

This will not work in bright areas like out doors, but sure works well indoors. Cell phones, lap-tops, and even watches have brightness controls that will help stretch the life of any battery.

2. Fully charge and discharge all of your batteries.

Try to avoid “topping off” the battery if there’s enough of a charge in there to get by, then remove the latitude D830 battery or unplug from the charger only after it has had a chance to trickle charge at 100%, and your battery will last 2 or 3 years easily.

3. Use programs that take less RAM and keep useless programs closed.

A lot of laptops come with cluttered programs since the day you take them home from the store. Stuff like Yahoo messenger or Firefox with 20 tabs open takes a lot of RAM and eats up batteries super fast.

4. Keeping the volume level on all of your music playing devices is key to a longer battery life.

You’ll be amazed at how much life loud music sucks out of your latitude d820 battery. This will also do wonders in preserving your ear-drums as well.

5. To go with #4, also turn down the volume on your cell-phone ringer.

Long ring-tones may sound cool, but hearing your favorite song play every time your phone rings will drain your inspiron M1330 battery in a hurry.

6. Turn off your Bluetooth whenever you’re not using it.

This can be an easy one to forget about if you’re often switching between using a Bluetooth, and the phone’s ear piece. Most people use their Bluetooth way too much anyhow, so cutting back on it’s use will lengthen the life of your battery.

7. I’ve always heard that when you get a new laptop, or anything with a rechargeable latitude d820 battery for that matter, you should charge it over night.

Pull that bad boy out of the box and give it a nice, long, healthy charge. Even if it says full, leave it in and charging for a while.

8. When I was little I would always find batteries in my grandmother’s fridge.

I always wondered why, turns out she was onto something. If you have extra dell latitude D830 battery for your phone, laptop, or anything else, go ahead and store those in the refrigerator. Just make sure not to freeze them.

9. Programs that are run from a CD or DVD can be copied to and run from the hard drive, which typically consumes less power than an optical drive.

If you have music and movies you know know you’ll be playing numerous times, just rip them onto your hard drive and you’ll be styled!

10. Lastly, just using basic common sense will help extend the life of all of your batteries.

If you’re not using it, turn it off! If you don’t need it, get rid of it! This is probably the most practical and applicable way to get the most out of all of your batteries.

Sony Developing Sugar Battery

Sony today announced the development of a bio battery that generates electricity from carbohydrates (sugar) utilizing enzymes as its catalyst, through the application of power generation principles found in living organisms.

Sony has created a battery that produces electricity by breaking down sugar. The bio cell, which measures 39 millimeters cubed, delivers 50mW milliWatts which is a world record for such a cell.In the past, sony vgp-bps2c,vgp-bps2a,vgp-bps5a,the classical laptop batteries are li-ion cells

I’m so proud of Sony, they really have been making great efforts in going green. I love watching how ordinary day-to-day items in our kitchen or in our home can provide an answer. Sorta like looking in the rainforest.

Test cells of this bio battery have achieved power output of 50 mW, currently the world’s highest level for passive-type bio batteries. The output of these test cells is sufficient to power music play back on a memory-type Walkman.

In order to realize the world’s highest power output, laptop battery , Sony developed a system of breaking down sugar to generate electricity that involves efficiently immobilizing enzymes and the mediator (electronic conduction materials) while retaining the activity of the enzymes at the anode.

Sony also developed a new cathode structure which efficiently supplies oxygen to the electrode while ensuring that the appropriate water content is maintained. Optimizing the electrolyte for these two technologies has enabled these power output levels to be reached.

Sugar is a naturally occurring energy source produced by plants through photosynthesis. It is therefore regenerative, and can be found in most areas of the earth, underlining the potential for sugar-based bio batteries as an ecologically-friendly energy device of the future.Old laptop battery is also very well, such as sony vgp-bps2c , vgp-bps2a

Sony is going to continue its development of immobilization systems, electrode composition and other technologies in order to further enhance power output and durability, with the aim of realizing practical applications for these bio batteries in the future.

The research results presented here have been accepted as an academic paper at the 234th American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition in Boston, MA USA, and were announced yesterday.

Which is actually an electric cell, is a device that produces electricity from a chemical reaction. Strictly speaking, a dell GD761 consists of two or more cells connected in series or parallel, but the term is generally used for a single cell. A cell consists of a negative electrode; an electrolyte, which conducts ions; a separator, also an ion conductor; and a positive electrode. Continue with How Batteries Work/Battery Types
Timeline of History

1748 - Benjamin Franklin first coined the term “battery” to describe an array of charged glass plates.

1780 to 1786 - Luigi Galvani demonstrated what we now understand to be the electrical basis of nerve impulses and provided the cornerstone of research for later inventors like Volta.

1800 - Alessandro Volta invented the voltaic pile and discovered the first practical method of generating electricity. Constructed of alternating discs of zinc and copper with pieces of cardboard soaked in brine between the metals, the voltic pile produced electrical current. The metallic conducting arc was used to carry the electricity over a greater distance. Alessandro Volta’s voltaic pile was the first “wet cell Dell inspiron 6400 battery, sony vgp-bps2c ” that produced a reliable, steady current of electricity.

1836 - Englishman, John F. Daniel invented the Daniel Cell that used two electrolytes: copper sulfate and zinc sulfate. The Daniel Cell was somewhat safer and less corrosive then the Volta cell.

1839 - William Robert Grove developed the first fuel cell, which produced electrical by combining hydrogen and oxygen.

1839 to 1842 - Inventors created improvements to batteries that used liquid electrodes to produce electricity. Bunsen (1842) and Grove (1839) invented the most successful.

1859 - French inventor, Gaston Plante developed the first practical storage lead-acid that could be recharged (secondary). This type of HP Pavilion zv5000 battery is primarily used in cars today.

1866 - French engineer, Georges Leclanche patented the carbon-zinc wet cell called the Leclanche cell. According to The History of Batteries: “George Leclanche’s original cell was assembled in a porous pot. The positive electrode consisted of crushed manganese dioxide with a little carbon mixed in. The negative pole was a zinc rod. The cathode was packed into the pot, and a carbon rod was inserted to act as a currency collector. The anode or zinc rod and the pot were then immersed in an ammonium chloride solution. The liquid acted as the electrolyte, readily seeping through the porous cup and making contact with the cathode material. The liquid acted as the electrolyte, readily seeping through the porous cup and making contact with the cathode material.”

1868 - Twenty thousand of Georges Leclanche’s cells were now being used with telegraph equipment.

1881 - J.A. Thiebaut patented the first dell inspiron E1505 battery with both the negative electrode and porous pot placed in a zinc cup.

1881 - Carl Gassner invented the first commercially successful dry cell (zinc-carbon cell).

1899 - Waldmar Jungner invented the first nickel-cadmium rechargeable.

1901 - Thomas Alva Edison invented the alkaline storage sony VGP-BPS2C battery.

1949 - Lew Urry invented the small alkaline.

1954 - Gerald Pearson, Calvin Fuller and Daryl Chapin invented the first solar.

Alessandro Volta

Biography of Alessandro Volta the inventor of the first practical in 1880.

Alkaline

Lew Urry developed the small alkaline in 1949. The inventor was working for the Eveready Co. at their research laboratory in Parma, Ohio. Alkaline batteries last five to eight times as long as zinc-carbon cells, their predecessors. This was not a patentable invention, since Volta and others long ago created the principles of batteries.

Solar

A solar converts the sun’s energy to electricity. In 1954, Gerald Pearson, Calvin Fuller and Daryl Chapin invented the first solar. The inventors created an array of several strips of silicon (each about the size of a razorblade), placed them in sunlight, captured the free electrons and turned them into electrical current. Bell Laboratories in New York announced the prototype manufacture of a new solar laptop battery . Bell had funded the research. The first public service trial of the Bell Solar began with a telephone carrier system (Americus, Georgia) on October 4 1955.

The history of photovoltaics includes the discovery of the solar. PV is the technological basis for solar power.
